Cycle Butik, a shop specializing in urban transportation will open soon at 2755 Lake Shore across from MaDonalds. The shop will carry the old style bikes from Holland, UK, Italy, and Denmark.  Full repair services and along with select cycle bags and other accessories will also be available. In addition, we will also have electric bikes as soon as they arrive.

GREAT! this is fantastic news :) Wow, someone beat me to news on what's opening!!
This IS great news. I hope that the implementation goes better than Lakeshore Cycle did.

I don't really know the business, but my impression is that having a solid bike "service" offering is the key to survival. There's lots of bicycles in the neighbourhood that need service, but relying on sales alone is tough to compete against all the other options.
Brian, you are 100% correct, Cycle Butik is a full service shop. We service all bikes, all models all sizes and all colours....we just love bikes. Bring yours bike in for a spring tune up in about 2 weeks.
Thomas. That's fantastic. I've always thought this is a great neighborhood for a good bike shop. See you soon.

Scott
Thanks Scott, the shop should be fully open around April 8th. Just in time for the spring season. Bikes are still arriving at the store along with other cool products.
I'm going to try them out shortly. I'll give back a report of what I find out.
The Cycle Butik shop is a typical LBS (Local Bike Shop), in so far as it sells new bikes and does repairs to our existing bikes, as well as sell some parts and accessories.

As this is a new shop, they are a bit 'green' or 'wet behind the ears' -- however this should be temporary, and they should get better with time and experience.

They have an interesting selection of bikes, including urban, mountain and electric powered bikes. They don't yet look like they are settled into a specialty yet, and may not be able to if they are the only bike shop in the area. One type of bike noticeably missing from his inventory is kid's bikes, but I suspect that many people prefer to spend less money and buy kids a cheap department store bike rather than a good bike. It may be that not very many families in the area (at least attempt to) use bikes as their primary mode of transportation.

At this point they have a limited selection of accessories (lights, locks, racks, trailers, helmets, clips, clothes, tools, parts) but are willing to order specific items in upon request. More common parts and accessories which are available from the biggest bike suppliers are no problem; but don't expect them to get unusual or uncommon parts which are sometimes found in some of the other larger specialty bike shops downtown. This is not meant as a criticism; this is also true at most other LBS's.

I'll be taking our bikes (There are 7 in our family's fleet) in to Cycle Butik for most of the more common problems which I encounter. However I will still need to use the services of the specialty shops downtown for some of the less-common encountered problems of being a family which uses bikes for transportation and utility. But that's OK as our neighbourhood needs a LBS first and foremost.

My Rating of Cycle Butik as a LBS: 4.5 out of 5 :-) !!
This store is awesome, and Thomas, the owner, is a straight up, fair guy. Incredibly satisfied with our transaction!! and looking forward to coming again... everyone who sees my daughter's cool, fold up bike wants to know where it came from ! :)
We got a tune-up for all our bikes at Cycle Butik. Fantastic service, Thomas is a great guy. Terrific addition to the Lakeshore!
