Does anyone know if there are any plans to have a craft/art market in the mimico area? I think a great spot would be the newly renovated park beside Birds & Beans.
Sounds like a great idea. There's a Mimico Residents Association that might be interested in helping with this. The trick is to get it by the BIA. I don't know what the climate is like now, but I know that in the past Farmer's Markets in the area were vetoed by a loud minority in the BIA. I don't think it was the Mimico BIA though.
I don't know the details first-hand. But I believe it was in the NT area, and a local store grocery/convenience store (that wasn't technically in the BIA) took issue with selling groceries in a farmer's market and raised a stink.
I've been on the Mimico-by-the-Lake BIA for 8 or 9 years and we've not vetoed a Farmer's Market in my time there. We (the BIA) are working with the Mimico Residents, Lakeshore Arts and the City to create a group to run and administer programs/events in the park/square. So things are in the formative stages now
An arts/craft market would be great - we'd need some help to get it going - any volunteers?
Count me in, David. We've been hoping for this since we moved to the area a few years ago! We discussed both the possibility of a Farmer's Market and an Arts/Craft show during the 20/20 charette last year too, and thought the Linear Park area, or right next to your shop would be a perfect location.
I have moved to Mimico two years ago and would love to have a farmers market! A farmers market forms a community and of course the benifits of supporting local farmers. It's a win/win.
how can I get involved?
Hello
I'm new to the area and would love to help with getting a farmer's/arts and craft market going in Mimico. The parkette beside Birds and Beans would be perfect. I'd be happy to help in any way.
Shelly
It sounds like those of you who are interested in helping should start to msg one another and then perhaps when you have a nice little group going, msg David from Birds and Beans, perhaps you could pop in to one of their BIA meetings and get some ideas going..
It would be so nice to have a craft market in the area!
