Any thoughts on this opening up in the neighborhood? Not sure if it's affiliated with the one on yonge street but looks like it opened on Nov.1 and located on lakeshore between 8th and 9th street.

Thought I would open up the forum and see what your thoughts are. I know we're happy when the cash and cheque places close and new businesses come in.. just not sure that this type of business is what I had in mind as revitalizing our area. Just my thought.

Not ideal, but on the druggy spectrum stoners are better than crackheads or tweakers any day.  And at least they will be doing it behind closed doors instead of in an alley or on a street corner.

It should help the local convenience stores see a spike in Cheetos sales too.

I had no idea this was even legal.

Cannabis is legal for those with medical conditions since 2001 . Presently the government runs a medical marijuana program which they will be stopping in 2014. At that time the program will may end as people know it but doctors will be able to give patients a prescription of cannabis just like they do for any other medication. Because of this there will be more and more people using cannabis as medicine and people in society will learn that medical marijuana patients are not threat to society. These people will need places to medicate out of the public eye and put them into a control environment.

allowing people a place to medicate is legal as well as places like this do not sell medication to patients and only supply them with a clean dry and safe place to medicate while outside of there homes.

i hope this helps

I cannot think of one good reason why it would be 'illegal'. .

Looks like its owned or run by Marco Renda, Editor/Publisher of Treating Yourself Magazine and founder of the Toronto Medical Marijuana Expo. Renda has an individual federal exemption from Canada's marijuana laws, based on his medical needs. (Although I don't expect that the majority of Vape's customers will have the same exemption; it's pretty difficult to get). Deborah, I don't believe that this is legal (there might be some grey area - I'm not a lawyer), but I think police don't make these places a priority unless there are lots of complaints about disruptive behaviour.

FIrst I've heard of this place, so I haven't seen the storefront yet, but found this mock-up on the TY website:

Nice reply Mark, thanks for the info.

Thanks, Mark.

You are correct. The place is run by Mr. Renda  who is the publisher and editor of the globally available Treating Yourself Magazine. Knowing that there would be concerns Mr. Renda requested that the drug squad come and visit his store, which they did. A resent article that is out on the place quotes the squad as having no problems with the location after this visit.

Fear is not a complaint but disruptive behavior is.  This is why Toronto spends so much money on enforcing the parties in the entertainment district of Toronto and don't do this with the 7 vapour lounges in the city. ask yourself... have you hear do any big disruptive behavior at these places in the last 6 years that Toronto has had them? this shows that these locations are much safer than the local drinking establishment.

i hope this helps

Great.  Another classy establishment added to our stellar storefront repertoire.   Bring on the new development, Longo!   I'd rather see another Starbucks than this crap.

Maybe they could open up a Starbucks inside Vape on the Lake, I bet you many Starbucks type professionals smoke pot anyway!

crap? people medicating for an illness isn't crap... its improving ones quality of life. Cannabis has over 200 conditions that it can help. here is a link to some 800 peer reviewed studies...

Cannabis Science Publishes List of Over 800 Peer-Reviewed Cannabis ...

i'd also like to point out that coffee such as Star Bucks is linked to up to 10,000 deaths (heart conditions) and cannabis has had 0

Death by Caffeine

I'm not sure telling someone to "shut the f@*k up", calling them stupid, and hurling homophobic slurs is really helping your cause.
