Police presence on Lakeshore... 1 Reply

Hi Everyone,I had heard recently that more foot patrol/bike police had been added to our neighbourhood. Can't say that I've seen much of a difference. Does anyone know how to contact the Toronto…Continue

Ryan and Taking Back Lakeshore:

I want to thank you, Ryan, for your kind words late 2010 regarding some of the initiatives we are "growing" to support community safety in our neighbourhoods. One step at a time, we decided to launch our blog, Lakeshoresafe as a first step (with more to come).

Thank you Ryan for your encouragement, help and shining example. I hope we can meet again.

Note on blog below:

New Toronto is an established mature neighbourhood with a mix of long time residents and new families.

Our proximity to the lake, Prince Of Wales Park, Humber College and the numerous ‘windows to the lake’ make our neighbourhood a unique and lovely place to live.

READ THE BLOG (see below) created by your neighbours.  It includes safety tips, contacts and keeps you informed.

Let’s keep our neighbourhood safe and secure.

Watch out for your neighbour as you would like them to watch out for you

KEEP SAFE – STAY SECURE and report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.

Ryan - please stop in for a chat before you leave the neighbourhood. Very sad to hear this, but I cannot blame you - you have to do what is best for you and your family. Perhaps, this might be a wake up call to all those who doubt the veracity of all our complaints. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Strangely, I expected with the new police college in place, I would be seeing patrols of student police. Has anyone seen increased police activity? Is there a way we can petition them to have more foot patrols throughout the neighbourhood?

Wow. I know the Rabba people - they seem pretty nice. Good to know they and the banks acted so fast. The machine had to have been swapped out. Could not figure out how else this would happen....We get our bank card shut down about once every 3 months from using it at a "suspect" place. The banks are very good at this and we haven't had any losses. Still, makes you wonder...

At the Café, we make sure we do this in front of you and have a very strong Moneris system (RBC and BMO) behind us. It's when you get those "no-name" cheaper type systems that you can run into lots of problems. Be on the lookout-any establishment that uses a bank debit system, like Moneris or TD is a bit more legit. Happy Canada Day everyone.

I spoke with some of the retailers in the area in and around Lakeshore and 9th. Turns out that fenced-in area does belong to the owner of the Cash Money building. Many of the businesses I spoke with are quite concerned about the activity going on - graffiti, theft, drugs and prostitution. People are using the dumpsters in the back alleys to get up on top of buildings or to break into the windows of the apartments. It was unanimous among them that things have gotten worse since 22 Division moved off Lakeshore Blvd.

Will anyone belonging to this discussion group be attending the community planning meeting on Saturday? Unfortunately I won't be able to attend, but would love to hear what was discussed...and feel like this might be the exact forum we need to get our concerns heard...?
