"It looks like it's closed to me. I also liked it. Nice people with authentic food. I kinda figured it's days were numbered when I saw Grillicious move in. Grillicious has a look that is more appealing and safe to your average Canadian.…"

area restos: hello and goodbye.

We were big fans of the little Turkish restaurant Konak, on Lakeshore. NOT confirmed, but it appears that this has gone deadpool.  The food was good, the family who owned it were so hard-working and impossibly nice. We're sad if this is true... On the 'hello' note, does anyone know the scoop on the new italian restaurant in the old Waffle Works location? I think it's called Florentine Italian Ristorante.See More

"Besides the naming inaccuracy, and indicating the Goodyear plant was closed 'a few years ago', I don't see much wrong with this article. The general tone rings pretty true to me. In fact, it seemed fairly positive - if it wasn't,…"

"I don't know the answer to the first two questions, but I would venture a big YES to the third. I think it looks cheap and cheesy. I do understand there's some energy savings to switching to LED, but the execution here is really poor in my…"

"Is anyone here living in the Mimico area, west of Royal York? I'd be surprised if noone heard about the shooting that took place on Lakeshore on Friday night. Graffiti is one thing. Guns in our neighbourhood is another. For some strange…"

"Further thoughts: I agree that removing or painting over tags isn't all that effective, as some others have pointed out. On the other hand, the murals can be quite striking. Not only do they add life and movement to a neighbourhood, they also…"

National Post: Kuitenbrouwer visits Honey World.

For those of you following Peter Kuitenbrouwer's Walk Across Toronto column in the National Post, his latest entry finds him in Alderwood, pointing out the virtues of the strip plaza. He visits Honey World, where Sandy Jolicoeur points out the virtues of her shop's offering. I can attest, she knows her honey - she sells over 50… Continue

food shopping tour.

After some reading on Chowhound, my mate and I decided to spend the day exploring the industrial-ish area between Kipling and Islington, just north of The Queensway. What pleasant surprises!

First, we hit Great Lakes Brewery, which we've been meaning to visit for ages. Sadly, they are out of the Green Tea brew, but we did sample their seasonal Orange Peel Ale - and then the others (what the heck, I hadn't had breakfast yet) - the Golden… Continue
