Gary Notar took action after a January break-in at his Lake Promenade home.
Notar spoke with neighbours, some of them single women, who expressed some apprehension about recent incidents. Talk quickly turned to home security - alarms, window locks, lighting. He went home, printed a Neighbourhood Watch PDF with crime prevention tips off the Toronto police website and started delivering it door-to-door. Word spread. Notar formed South Etobicoke Neighbours in Community (SENIC). Within weeks, nearly 50 people had joined.
